Your workplace Safety Advisor has been appointed with the responsibility of ensuring your workplace is one that is a healthy and safe environment for you to be in, along with providing all staff and contractors the basic knowledge and advice of where safety features and equipment can be found (such as fire extinguishers, eye-wash stations, AEDs, safety documents and more, what to do in an emergency and ensuring the workplace is kept up-to-date on hazard assessments and certifications.

On July 11th, Air Canada Flight 33 from Toronto to Sydney, Australia was forced to make an emergency landing in Honolulu due to extreme turbulence – injuring 37 people. While flight turbulence may not have been preventable, most injuries were.

All companies requiring COR audits will now be audited using this new standard. On July 6, 2018, the RCMP charged 29-year-old Jaskirat Singh Sidhu, the driver of the semi-trailer, with 16 counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and 13 counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily injury.

British Columbia has declared a state of emergency due to the almost 600 wildfires that are plaguing the province. Hot, dry weather conditions have made the situation worse, along with lightning strikes causing even more fires to add to the problem.

The smoke from the BC fires has been pushing it's way into Alberta and is creating very poor air quality and air advisory warnings from Environment Canada to be issued. The Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) indicates that air quality is forecast as a 10 (High Risk) for Friday August 17, and 9 overnight and into Saturday. Moving into the weekend it should drop to a moderate risk of 5.

Horror Isn’t Just on Halloween

Halloween is usually fondly thought of as a fun and spooky night for kids and kids at heart, and the thought of children’s safety is usually top of mind for parents and guardians alike – for good reason.

October 31st is actually one of the most dangerous days of the year when it comes to traffic and vehicle related accidents and fatalities. In fact, pedestrian deaths spike 43% on Halloween, making it more susceptible to a traffic fatality than any other night of the year – and children being the most at risk.
